Highbanks Hustle Gets Underway

MARION -- Southern Illinois Raceway kicked off its biggest event of the season on Friday night, the two day Highbanks Hustle.

The evening started by dodging storms and finally getting the heat races going.

Seventy-six racers entered the event. The night featured four qualifying races and the final 30 lap main race.

The top 24 drivers from the qualifying races, competed for the right to advance to Saturday night's final.  Frank Flud from Pryor, Oklahoma won Friday's main.  Andrew Peters of Greentown, Indiana, Joe B. Miller from Millersville, Mo, Nate Lauderbaugh from Kokomo, Indiana, Jake Hagopran from Fresno, California, and Matt Howard from Lawrence, Kentucky also qualified for Saturday's final.

The final 18 spots in the $5000 40-lap main will be determined by more qualifying races Saturday.

Racing will begin at 7:00 

Event organizers say it's the highest paying micro sprint race in the midwest this summer.
