Roper, Henshaw Lead Harrisburg

HARRISBURG -- It would be easy for Harrisburg senior Capel Henshaw to coast through the football season. After all, basketball practice starts in just two and a half months and Henshaw is set to lead a Bulldog team that returns four starters from last year's elite eight team. But Henshaw has other priorities this fall.

"I think about it quite a bit but I'm really focused on football right now," Henshaw said.

Henshaw has added 15 pounds thanks to a rigorous workout schedule. The 6-foot-3 safety spent the summer lifting weights and shooting hoops for the Illinois Bears, an AAU team out of Carterville. Despite a busy schedule, his commitment never wavered. He even missed a trip to Orlando so he could be at football camp.

"I'm really enjoying football," he said. "I've put a lot of time into football prior to the fall, more than I usually put in for the last few years."

Henshaw is still deciding what sport to play in college. He has several scholarship offers to play division two basketball. Multiple division one schools have also expressed interest.

"He could be a kid that chose basketball and not have competed at our school in three sports but he's chosen to compete, and I'm proud of him for that," Bulldogs head football coach Jason Roper said.

Just like Henshaw, Bulldogs quarterback Ryne Roper is doing his best to stay focused on football. The senior also plays basketball and baseball.

"We're supposed to have a good basketball team this year, we've got a lot of guys coming back," Roper said. "Baseball is my favorite sport but right now it's football so I'll try and do the best I can in that."

Roper will play baseball in college. He's already verbally committed to play at the University of Illinois in 2013.

"You just got to take it day by day," he said. "Show up, do what we're supposed to do, try to do it well and just don't look ahead."
