Salukis Tough Out Win at SIUE

By WSIL Sports

EDWARDSVILLE -- For the first time in five years, the Basketball Salukis sit 3-0 after taking care of sister school SIUE 71-55 Tuesday night in Edwardsville, although the schools acted more like rivals than family.

The game was delayed more than 20 minutes in the second half as the officials tried to sort out a scrum for a loose ball in front of the Cougars' bench. When the dust settled, seven players were ejected, despite no punches being thrown. Antonio Bryer was the lone Saluki tossed. He, along with Jerome Jones and Ray Lester for the Cougars were ejected for the play. Four more SIUE players were ejected for leaving the bench.

By that point, SIU had already built a 15-point lead and simply cruised from there to the win.

Jeff Early led the Salukis again with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Kendal Brown-Surles and Anthony Beane, Junior each tallied 15, with Desmar Jackson adding 12 points, 10 rebounds and five steals.

The Salukis will go for 4-0 Saturday night at St. Louis University.
