Salukis Host First Scrimmage
CARBONDALE -- The SIU football team hosted its first scrimmage of fall camp Saturday morning at Saluki Stadium.
Both sides of the ball shined at times. The first team offense was led by junior quarterback Kory Faulkner. He completed 10-of-19 passes for 146 yards and a pair of touchdowns, both to tight end MyCole Pruitt.
All four of SIU's healthy quarterbacks got in the game. Du Quoin native AJ Hill took snaps with the second team. He was 5-of-8 for 44 yards with a touchdown, to go along with an interception.
Running backs Mika’il McCall and Steve Strother rushed for a combined 100 yards on 16 carries. McCall had 68 yards on nine attempts while Strother ran seven times for 32 yards.
The defense held its own as well. The secondary had numerous big hits and also came up with three interceptions.
The Salukis will scrimmage one more time, next Saturday at 8:30 a.m. SIU opens the season at Eastern Illinois on August 30.
