Salukis Drop Opener at Missouri
COLUMBIA, MO -- SIU put up a gallant fight, but lost 72-59 in Tuesday night's season opener at Missouri.
Desmar Jackson scored ten early points as the Salukis grabbed an early two point lead.
The Tigers grabbed the lead and extended it to seven late in the first half, but the Dawgs got threes from newcomers Dawson Verhines, Marcus Fillyaw, and Mike Balogun to pull within one, 35-34 at the half.
Missouri slowly pulled away in the second half thanks in large part to Jordan Clarkson. Clarkson hit 12 of his 18 shots from the field for a game high 31.
Jackson was the lone Saluki in double figures with 17.
The Dawgs return to action Saturday night when St. Louis comes to town for the home opener.
