SIU Wins In Dramatic Fashion In Front Of Sell-Out Crowd

 CARBONDALE -- SIU men's basketball team pulled out the dramatic win against Illinois State on Saturday. 

The SIU Arena was sold out for the first time since 2008 as the Salukis battled the Redbirds on Senior day. 

Illinois State led 36-33 at halftime. Then in the second half, SIU trailed 65-63 when Tyler Smithpeters hit a three-pointer with 9.1 seconds left to go in the game. SIU pulled out the 66-65 victory. 

SIU finished conference play with a 9-9 record. 

The Salukis will be the number six seed in the MVC Tournament. They will face the 3rd seed, Northern Iowa on Friday at 8:35 pm.
