CARBONDALE -- Down two with time winding down, Mamadou Seck's shot with three seconds left fell short as SIU lost to Missouri State 56-54 Wednesday night at SIU Arena.

SIU (8-17, 5-9 MVC) had a second chance at Seck's miss but Jeff Early's attempt also was off the mark. Missouri State (15-11, 8-6 MVC) quickly regained the lead on the next possession off Kyle Weems' 3-pointer. Anthony Downing's 3 two plays later extended the Bears' lead to four.

Caleb Patterson led all scorers with 18 points. Kyle Weems chipped in 14 points and eight rebounds for Missouri State.

Mamadou Seck led the Salukis with 14 points and five rebounds but was the only SIU player in double figures. T.J. Lindsay scored nine points, Jeff Early had eight and Treg Setty added seven.
