CARBONDALE --  Eastern Michigan transfer Mark Iannotti picked up the offense fast and is making a case for the starting job, which coaches expect to announce this Saturday.

He's been taking equal reps at practice with sophomore Ryan West, rotating between the 1's and 2's.

"I mean it is getting extremely competitive and it started in the summer in who can step up and lead the guys," said Iannotti. "It is starting to heat up since we are getting closer to the season. We are still encouraging each other and the coaches are going to put the best player out there that can play. We are pushing ourselves and trying to get better everyday and that is all you can ask."

Salukis continue practice on Tuesday at 8:15.
