CARBONDALE -- SIU held Illinois State to only three hits in Thursday's series opener. Unfortunately for the Salukis, all three were homeruns leading the Redbirds to a 4-3 win.

The Dawgs scored two in the first to grab a 2-0 lead, but ISU tied it in the second on Brock Stewart's long two run homer.

The Redbirds added back to back homers from Brett Kay and Chad Hinshaw in the sixth, and that turned out to be the difference.

SIU got one of those runs back in the seventh, but could not push across the equalizer.

The two teams will meet again Friday at 3:00 and then close the regular season Saturday at 1:00.
