With 40 seconds to play, Hinson received two technical fouls back-to-back and was ejected from the game. It was cosmetic, as the game was already decided. SIU trailed by 31 at that point.

SIU (8-14, 1-10) trailed by 12 at half but was out scored by 24 in the second half. Illinois State (13-10, 4-7) was led by Tyler Brown's 16 points. Jackie Carmichael added 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.

The 36-point loss matched a program record for the all-time worst defeat.
