WSIL -- Two southern Illinois high school callers were awarded championships at competitions in Maryland last weekend.
Johnston City's Gabe Evrard won the 16 and under Junior World Goose Calling title in Easton, Maryland. The freshman has been calling for three years and says he practices everyday.
One of his good friends is Carbondale freshman Gabe Wece. He was crowned the Junior Mason/Dixon Regional Duck Calling champion last weekend at a 16 and under event also in Easton.
Both say taking home the title was the result of a lot of hard work.
