Verhines Brothers Lead Rend Lake to Title
DANVILLE -- Woodlawn natives Bronson and Dawson Verhines led Rend Lake College to its first men's basketball national championship.
Bronson was named the tournament's most valuable player. Dawson was awarded the tournament's sportsmanship award.
The brothers were key contributors in Rend Lake's run to the national tournament. Bronson scored 13 points and grabbed a game high 14 rebounds in the championship game against Moraine Valley. The sophomore forward averaged 15 points and 13 rebounds at the tournament.
Freshmen guards Cortez Macklin and Jeril Taylor were also honored. The Louisville natives were named to the All-Tournament team.
Macklin scored a game high 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the title game. Taylor added 15 points against the Cyclones.
The Warriors finished the season with a record of 30-3.
