Thousands Raised at Officials Golf Outing
CARBONDALE -- For 11 years, the Egyptian Officials Association has been raising money through an annual golf outing at Hickory Ridge in Carbondale. This year the EOA, along with the Southern Illinois Coaches Association surpassed the $200,000 mark.
All of the proceeds help area kids go to college in the form of scholarships. Each high school that enters a team in the scramble is eligible to receive a portion of the money. Usually each school gets about one-thousand dollars to distribute.
This year former St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Danny Cox played in the event. Cox lives in Freeburg, Illinois and got involved with the tournament after watching his daughter play volleyball on a summer team with Murphysboro coach Mike Layne.
