Saluki Women Drop Opener

By WSIL Sports

CARBONDALE -- Wright State beat SIU 67-64 Friday night, ruining Cindy Stein's debut as the Saluki Women's Basketball coach.

Southern led by as many as 11 in the first half, but the Raiders closed the half on a 19-7 run to lead 28-27 at the break.

Wright State extended that lead to a dozen early in the second half, before the Salukis rallied.

SIU closed within one on two different occasions, but poor free throw shooting doomed the Dawgs.

The Salukis were just 3-13 from the line, helping lead to the three point, season opening loss.

Rishonda Napier led SIU with 13. Dyana Pierre added a double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds. Cartaesha Macklin also tallied 12.

The Salukis host Austin Peay Tuesday night.
