CARBONDALE -- With no hopes of making the postseason, SIU played for pride and to honor cancer victims in the second Black Out Cancer game Saturday, shutting out Western Illinois 35-0 at Saluki Stadium.

SIU (6-5, 5-3 MVFC) recorded its first home conference shutout since 1985. The Salukis finished the season in a tie for third-place with Illinois State and Indiana State in the Missouri Valley Football Conference.

More than $45,000 was raised for cancer research as part of the Black Out Cancer event. All SIU players wore black jerseys with the name of cancer victims and survivors on the back.
