SIU Dismisses McCall
CARBONDALE -- SIU has dismissed junior running back Mika'il McCall from the team for what head coach Dale Lennon described as "disciplinary reasons."
McCall was the Salukis' top returning rusher, after gaining more than 500 yards and scoring nine touchdowns last year as a sophomore.
McCall had 24 yards on seven carries in Saturday's 42-34 loss at Illinois. The former Iowa transfer scored a one-yard touchdown in the opening quarter before losing a critical fumble in the second quarter. McCall nearly fumbled again later in the game and was subsequently benched.
The Salukis still have plenty of depth at running back with Georgia transfer Ken Malcome, Oregon State transfer Malcolm Agnew, and juco transfer Tay Willis. Those three are expected to split the duties as the Dawgs welcome Eastern Illinois Saturday for their home opener.
