Herrin Dedicates Jilek Field
HERRIN -- The Herrin softball team dedicated its new field to former Tigers coach Bruce Jilek during a ceremony Friday afternoon.
Jilek coached at Herrin for 24 years, leading the softball team to eight state tournament appearances. The longtime coach won 539 games in his career, only losing 102 in softball. Jilek coached numerous sports for the Tigers, including football and basketball.
The current John A. Logan softball coach says it's an honor to have the field named after him. It's all part of a new $3.8 million complex that will serve as the home to numerous Herrin athletic venues.
The facility has four baseball and softball fields, four soccer fields, eight lighted tennis courts and a walking track that circles the 54 acres.
