Harrisburg Remains Perfect
CARBONDALE -- Less than a month ago, Harrisburg ended Alton Marquette's football season in the 4A quarterfinals 41-7.
Saturday night, the basketball Bulldogs took care of Marquette as well, but it wasn't nearly as one-sided.
In what many think could be a preview of the SIU 2A Supersectional, Harrisburg held off Marquette 62-53 in the feature game of the 2nd Saluki Shootout.
The Bulldogs came out blistering hot from three point range. Tyler Smithpeters hit four from distance in the first quarter as Harrisburg led by as many as 11.
The lead was still 10 in the second when the Explorers went on a 10-0 run to tie the game at 30. Eli Taborn-Scott's bucket gave the Bulldogs a 34-32 lead at the break.
Harrisburg trailed by one in the third until Ryne Roper hit a three at the buzzer to give the Bulldogs a 44-42 lead heading to the fourth.
Harrisburg's lead was still one at 51-50 with less than three minutes to play, but the 'Dogs scored 11 of the final 14 points to secure the win.
