Drake Dominates SIU, Worst Season In School History
DES MOINES, IA. -- Drake dominated SIU in nearly every way Wednesday and made history doing it. Four players scored in double-figures for the Bulldogs, as the Salukis lost their 21st game of the season, a new school record, 78-63 at the Knapp Center.
No SIU (8-21, 5-12 MVC) team had ever lost more than 20 games in a season before Wednesday. The loss also tied a school record for the worst three-year stretch in the program's 97 seasons with 55 losses. Since the start of the 2009 season, the Salukis are a combined 36-55. From 1980-1983, SIU also lost 55 games. Drake (16-13, 9-8 MVC) never trailed in Wednesday's game. The Bulldogs jumped out to an 18-14 lead with 7:50 to play the first half, the closest the Salukis came to a lead. Drake used a 9-0 run from that point to pave the way to a 38-25 haltime lead. The Salukis' struggles from the 3-point line continuted. SIU made only one 3-pointer all night, shooting just six percent (1-15). Mamadou Seck led SIU with his ninth double-double of the season, scoring 20 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Jeff Early added 18 points to go along with nine boards. No other player scored in double-figures for the Salukis. |
