Trico Lady Pioneers Clinch State Semis Berth
DU QUOIN -- The Trico Lady Pioneers beat the New Athens Yellow Jackets 1-0 Tuesday, clinching a berth in the state semis.
For the second straight game Trico needed clutch hitting to advance in the postseason. This time it was Jordan Lodge driving in Jessica Prange with a sacrafice fly in the 6th inning for the 1-0 win.
Lodge was dominate in the pitching circle as well, taking a no hitter into the 7th inning. New Athens finally broke through with a hit and advanced the runner to 3rd base before Lodge struck out the final batter sealing the victory for the Lady Pioneers.
"We talked about when postseason started, we wanted to hang 3 plaques in the hallway this year and we got that done and now we're guaranteed to be one of the top 4 teams in the state." says Trico head coach Andrew Franklin.
"We had a building year last year cause no one graduated or anything like that," says Jordan Lodge of this years senior class. "So we just made sure just that we improve on everything we did and this is the team that we went to state our 8th grade year with so it's kind of cool."
"Being the winning hit and the winning run it feels awesome" said Jessica Prange, "To put this team in this situation to where we can go to Peoria, it's great."
Trico heads to East Peoria Thursday to prepare for a matchup with Amboy, Friday at 12:30.
