Terriers Focused on Claiming Conference Title
CARBONDALE -- Carbondale's Jim Miller became the winningest head coach in program history just over a week ago. Miller's boys basketball team has been on a tear this season, as the wins continue to pile up.
The Terriers have been playing their best basketball of late. They are 16-2 overall, with a 5-1 record in conference. But what is even more impressive, the Terriers are riding a 10 game winning streak and didn't lose a game in the month of January.
"It has been a fun year," said Miller. "Our kids have progressed better than I have anticipated. They are playing extremely well together and the chemistry has been outstanding, which is the number one ingredient to any basketball team. The kids really enjoy each other and they enjoy the process."
"It means a lot and we have built our chemistry," said Carbondale senior Shamarc Bursey. "We have a pretty good team and we can go far."
Carbondale is led by a strong senior class that includes Bursey and Devontavius Payne. The two, along with their teammates are focused on winning the program's first conference title since 2007.
"First we have to take it game by game and then we can focus on conference and after that regionals," said Bursey. "We are going to take it step by step."
"Right now we are in a pretty good position to contend for the championship," said Miller. "The kids have put us in a good position where we can take care of our own destiny. We have won a couple games on the road. However, the meat of the schedule is coming up."
The Terriers will look to take one step closer to winning a conference title, when they travel to Althoff on Friday night.
