Roper Named Illinois' Best
WSIL -- Harrisburg senior Ryne Roper isn't much on individual awards, but even he admitted the latest honor was pretty neat.
Roper was named the Gatorade High School Baseball Player of the Year for the state of Illinois.
The award is given for performance on and off the field.
On the field, Roper was 11-0 as a pitcher with a 0.51 ERA. He also hit .450 with nine homers.
Off the field, Ryne finished with a 4.0 grade point average, while being a devote member of his church and volunteer in the community.
Roper has signed to play at the University of Illinois, where he will pitch and play in the infield.
