Pinckneyville, Johnston City Unveil Turf Fields
WSIL -- Pinckneyville and Johnston City's football fields will have a new look and feel this season.
Crews are ahead of schedule installing FieldTurf to Quillman Field, along with a new composite track. It's all part of a 21-million dollar high school that is set to open in time for the start of classes this fall.
Athletic Director and head football coach Tod Rushing says FieldTurf wasn't part of the original plan but bids for the track and school renovation came in low, so the school had extra money to spend on the field.
The crew installing the turf is the same group that put down Du Quoin's FieldTurf last year.
Meanwhile, Johnston City has also added FieldTurf. Renovations to Ralph Davison Field are part of a 5.3 million dollar project that includes a new softball field, press box and weight room facilities.
The football stadium is expected to be completed in the coming weeks, just in time for the first football practice August 8th.
The field is also expected to have a video scoreboard, the first of its kind in southern Illinois.
Johnston City and Pinckneyville join Carterville and Du Quoin as area schools with FieldTurf. Herrin and Marion are expected to add turf next season.
