Chester Gets an Early Start
CHESTER -- August 14th is a date that high school football coaches, players, and fans have had circled for a while. It's the first day teams can practice, and it signals that the season is just 16 days away.
The Chester Yellow Jackets wasted no time getting to work, burning the midnight oil to get in their first practice. Midnight madness has become a tradition in Chester. This marked the sixth straight year the Jackets have held the late night practice.
Bryan Lee's squad returns 13 starters from last year's squad that finished 9-1. Chester ran the table in the Black Diamond a year ago, before a playoff scheduling quirk paired the Jackets with Belleville Althoff out of the South 7 in the first round of the postseason.
The Crusaders won the game 42-24, but the Jackets still had plenty to take away from the experience. In fact, Coach Lee showed the team the film from that loss prior to the late night practice.
Lee said that's the first time he's shown the film of a season ending loss prior to the following year's first practice, but he felt his team had plenty to be proud of and learn from that playoff loss.
