Changes Ahead for Black Diamond Conference

By WSIL Sports

WSIL -- The Black Diamond Conference athletic directors voted unanimously Tuesday night to add Edwards County, but the school will not join until the 2016-17 school year.

The move comes on the heels of Elverado's decision back in January to drop its football co-op with Trico and instead join with Du Quoin.  Elverado will leave the Diamond in all sports at the end of this school year, clearing a path for the Falcons to likely head to the South Egyptian Conference.

In the two years before Edwards County joins the league, the other nine football schools in the BDC will need to find a ninth opponent.

In all other sports, the Black Diamond is split into East and West divisions.  Edwards County, which is located in Albion, will naturally join the east.  When that happens, Vienna will shift over to the west side.

Trico will remain in the conference in all sports other than football.
