Buss Continues To Add To Her Legacy
MT. CARMEL -- Mount Carmel's Tyra Buss is a scoring machine on the basketball court. No one in girls basketball has scored more points in the state of Illinois than Buss.
She broke the state record for most total points in a career on December 28th, 2013, when she scored a career-high 66 points against Princeton.
"It was surreal and crazy," said Buss. "It was in front of a packed house and just standing room only. There were over four thousand plus fans when it happened. It was just a moment I will never forget."
"You know just to get where she is at, just shows her work ethic," said Mt. Carmel head coach Tim Willis. "You know to score that many is just hard to imagine."
Buss now ranks second all-time nationally in total points in girls hoops. She's scored more than 4,500 Points in her career and that number is still rising. But it's not all about the personal accolades for Buss.
"I don't think about how many points I score," said Buss. "I just do whatever it takes to help my team win."
During Buss' tenure with the Lady Aces, they have claimed three straight regional titles and hope to make it four in a row soon. But the Lady Aces have never won a sectional title and that is something that Buss and her teammates would like to change.
''It would definitely mean a lot and it is a team sport," said Buss. "The personal stuff is great but we are a team and it would mean a lot to get past the sectional championship."
Buss will soon wrap up her extraordinary career at Mount Carmel and begin a new chapter at Indiana University, where she hopes to add to her already impressive legacy.
"Not quite ready to go yet," said Buss. "I want to take these last games in."
Mt. Carmel tips-off the postseason on Wednesday at Lawrenceville.
