Anna-Jonesboro Pole Vaulter REACHing New Heights
CHARLESTON -- Anna Jonesboro pole vaulter Hannah Reach competed at state track this weekend but her journey to Charleston was unique.
Reach's best vault of the season was nine foot six inches and to qualify for state you need to clear 10 feet.
During sectionals, a Chester coach suggested she use one of the yellowjackets poles and after doing so, she cleared nine foot nine inches.
Then on her final attempt at 10 feet, she used a pole the IHSA offered up and hit a new personal best.
Reach competed at state on Saturday but she missed clearing 10 feet during the competition, finishing in 12th place.
The good news is she's only a sophomore and she is now focused on building off this year's late success.
"It was a great experience and even though I didn't medal this year, I am so proud to be in the top 12 of the state and I can't wait to come back and medal next year," said Reach.
