Free Shakespeare in the Park

Stone Soup Shakespeare, based in Carbondale, IL, is touring A Midsummer Night's Dream around Southern Illinois and beyond for free. This free performance uses Shakespeare's original words, bringing them off of the page and actively to Southern Illinoisans backyards. Halfway through their 2012 tour, A Midsummer Night's Dream will be performed in Nashville, IL (on the Washington County Courthouse Lawn) on Tuesday, May 29 at 6:00pm, in front of the Herrin City Library in Herrin on Thursday, May 31 at 6:30pm and in Carbondale, IL (on the lawn in front of Hickory Lodge on Sycamore St.) on Saturday, June 2 at 7:00pm. The performances are free and outdoors. The tour opened in Marion, IL last Tuesday (May 22) to a full crowd. Stone Soup Shakespeare encourages interested attendees to bring a picnic and either a picnic blanket or lawn chairs to enjoy this Shakespeare in the Park event. They also accept non-perishable food items that they consolidate and bring to local food banks at each location.
