DeSoto Student brings home hoop honors

Having already tasted glory in the local, district, and state competitions, Brendan Whiting captured 3rd place on Sunday, March 10, 2012 at the Elks Hoop Shoot North Central Regional Championship.

Brendan the son of Jennifer and Mike Wright demonstrated accuracy from the penalty line well beyond his years and brought honors to his hometown of DeSoto and representing Carbondale Elks Lodge #1234.

Brendan a student at DeSoto Grade School, participated in the 12-13 year-old Boys division. One of more than 3 million boys and girls ages 8-13 have participated in the contest since last fall vying for a spot in the National Finals held in Springfield, MA.

Brendan represented his home state of Illinois in the Elks Hoop Shoot, now in its 40th year, the Elks Hoop Shoot has seen more than 107 million participants making it the largest coeducational youth sports program in the nation. Funded entirely by the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, it has served as a testing ground for sports legends, Olympic medalists, and numerous professional athletes.
