St. Louis, MO—
St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Josh Hancock died early Sunday in a car accident shortly after midnight in St. Louis.
Police say Hancock was driving a black Ford Explorer westbound on highway 40 in St. Louis.
He was in the far left lane when he ran into a tow truck stopped in front of him.
According to police, the tow truck had its hazards on and lights flashing but Hancock hit it and died instantly.
Hancock was in his second season with the Cardinals.
The team will wear a patch on their uniform with his number 32 to honor their former teammate.
His funeral will be Thursday in Tupelo, Mississippi.
General Manager Walt Jocketty says the entire team will be there.
Josh was 29 years old.
