3 Ways to Save on Home Decor

Play Video
Seeking out home décor that looks just like the magazines? Relying on expensive brand names can be hard on the pocketbook. Fortunately, that's not your only option.

Ruby Bayan, a Do-it-Yourself expert at e-how dot com, offers some tips. First make your wish list. Get a feel for the style you want.

Ruby says if you get a concept for your "dream theme", you'll be less likely to get side-tracked as you shop and end up spending less.

"It stops you from getting stuff that you don't really need, or end up not using anyway. You're just focused on what you really need," said Ruby.

Next, try hand-crafting your own decorative items. With just some basic knowledge- you can make throws, pillows, or curtains. If you have a little woodworking and painting know-how, you can create your own shelves or picture frames. Ruby says some of the most affordable and unique surroundings come from items that have been recycled or re-purposed.

"If you buy stuff already made, there's always the price tag on the name brand. So if you make things on your own, that's always more economical."

Finally go natural, with plants, flowers, and foliage. Ruby says they're fresh and versatile, able to compliment any decorative style.
You can rotate your potted plants from indoor to outdoor for some variety.

"You can put them anywhere. You can use flowers, leaves, dried plants- that's always a good way to liven up your home."

Ruby has lots of home and garden articles. Click the link below for more details.
