The idea of the Morthland Institute of Higher Learning is based on faith. Its genesis stemming back to March of '09. Now, the pages are turning and college founders are waiting on the state to approve authority to operate.
"Its hard to wait because there's so much to do in anticipation of opening in the fall."
Dr. Tim Morthland and a group of more than 70 supporters are in the final stages of creating a the secondary institution of higher learning, AKA, a college...
"It reaches back to the educational traditions in America where institutes were founded with that particular philosophy. And then combo those philosophies with a broad and liberal education."
The planned curriculum includes 8 programs of Study:
Three 2-year programs:

It will also offer five 4-year programs:

"Which we believe is affordable for most students."
Morthland says, the college will be based in his home town of West Frankfort, which he hopes will benefit the community in the long run...
"Many people in this project under that this can also help the local economy, it can help people find jobs and just help in all those different facets."
Morthland says founders anticipate a start date of Fall 2010.
He says, for now, fall classes will meet at the West Frankfort High School, the Aquatics Center and library. An informational meeting will be held Saturday, January 30th from 3 to 5pm at the city's Aquatics Center.
