Woman Killed In Randolph County Wreck

RANDOLPH CO. – One person was killed and four others were hurt in a one vehicle wreck on Route 13 at Campbell Road near Coulterville.

A vehicle driven by Vera Rees, 16, of Sparta was westbound on Route 13 when she tried to pass a semi trailer in the eastbound lane. Rees’ vehicle left the southbound side of the road, struck a ditch and overturned, according to Illinois State Police.

Rees was wearing her seatbelt and was not injured. There were four passengers in the vehicle:

Kaitlyn Niermann, 18, of Red Bud was fatally injured. She was ejected from the vehicle

Wesley Durrett, 21, of Coulterville received minor injuries and was taken to Sparta Hospital

Ronald Rees, 23, of Coulterville was ejected from the vehicle. He was taken to Sparta Hospital then transferred to St. Louis University Hospital.

Alyssa Anderson, 15, of Sparta received minor injuries and was taken to Sparta Hospital

ISP say the investigation into the accident continues and charges are pending.
