Talking Politics: Uncontested Races

WSIL TV—Dozens of Illinois lawmakers are running unopposed in next year’s primary and general elections.

According to Mike Lawrence, former director of the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute at Southern Illinois University, there are about three dozen House members and eight senators running in uncontested races.


However, Lawrence does not believe that will embolden lawmakers to take tough votes to solve the state’s budget problems when they go back to Springfield in 2010.

“Talking Politics” is a partnership between News Three and the Simon Institute. Edan Schultz and Dana Jay co-host the weekly segment Sunday nights during the late newscast.
