Deputy Injured in Crash

Play Video
DU QUOIN -- A Perry County Sheriff's deputy is in stable condition after a crash Monday afternoon.

It happened around 5:15 p.m. on U.S. 51 in Du Quoin.

Illinois State Police say a pickup driven by Kyle Jones, 20, of Du Quoin was attempting to turn onto Jefferson Street from U.S. 51 when he hit a squad car driven by Deputy Tim Jablonski, 30, of Tamaroa.

Jablonski's car caught fire and had to be extinguished by Jones and other witnesses.

Jablonski was taken to St Louis University Hospital with major injuries.

Jones was treated for minor injuries at Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.

Jones has been cited by Illinois State Police for failure to yield while turning left.
