Local High Schoolers Help Child Advocacy Group
MARION-- Dozens of local high school students gathered at Marion Centre Mall on Sunday, not to shop, but to display six unique projects they've been working on for the last three months.
"We have Noah's Ark, we have a helicopter, and we have more traditional houses," said Fritzi Janes, a board member for CASA of Williamson County.
The creations are actually playhouses, that high school students from district two in Williamson County have worked on for the last three months.
"Just to see the finished project, it's really good to see because during Saturdays we would be working on it, and also in the middle of school going in our free classes to work on it. So it's really good to see it finally finished," said Carterville High School student John Dlessio, as he stood in front of Noah's Ark playhouse.
All of the playhouses are apart of a project for CASA of Williamson County, a local child advocacy group. Each year, more than a quarter of a million children end up in the court system, because their parents aren't providing them a proper home.
So for the last sixteen years, high school students in district two have been building the playhouses to raffle away, and donate all proceeds directly to help the kids in our region who need it the most.
"Parting ways with our hard work is kind of bittersweet, but it's still good knowing that where it's going to be going is for a good cause," said Dlessio.
Ticket sales for the playhouses go on sale Monday, November 23rd. And the winners of the houses will be announced by Santa Claus at the Marion Centre Mall, on December 22nd.
