Saluki Way Project Right On Schedule

CARBONDALE-- Bulldozers and cement trucks have been kicking up a lot of dust at the Saluki Way construction site in Carbondale lately, as workers do what they can to stay on schedule with the project.

"In the last two weeks we've been extremely blessed in that the rain has stayed away, and that's really allowed us to get quite a bit of work done on the project," says SIU Associate Athletic Director Jason King.

Because of all the rain the area saw in October, King says there were worries the project may fall behind.
But recently progress has picked up, and a lot of the steel structure is complete.
Many of the concession stands and bathrooms for the future stadium are virtually done as well.
Soon, crews will start moving into the next phase.

"The next thing that I anticipate seeing over the next couple of months here is the actual structure to the grandstand itself, starting to take place and starting to come out of the ground, and so that'll be an important part for us as well," said King.

King says he's been waiting for this kind of progress on Saluki Way since the project started 5 years ago. And although the Salukis will have a new home next season, it will be tough to see McAndrew go.

"It's bittersweet, I mean we appreciate the things that we've done in the Mac, but we all are excited, about moving to the new facility as well, and the new things that that facility's going to provide for us."
