Perry Co. Family Grateful for Blood Donors
Samantha considers it a miracle she's even here today. After what she describes as a normal pregnancy turned complicated near the end, Cole was delivered via emergency C section.
"They couldn't get her to stop bleeding. It scared me to death," said Steven.
"I pretty well came close to dying. If it hadn't been for the fantastic doctors and hospitals and the blood. I probably wouldn't be here today, and it's quite possible Cole wouldn't either," said Samantha.
Samantha needed eight units of blood and six units of plasma. Blood donated at drives like this one.
Now the family is encouraging people who can give to roll up their sleeves and donate. Something Steven does more often now.
"By all means, go ahead and try. If you have some reason that you can't, that's understandable, but it's great because you can save lives, and he's got a mom because of it."
"It makes me feel extreme grateful. Because I'm not a young mother, and to be able to do this all over again, to have Cole in my life. I'm just so thankful for everyone who donates," said Samantha.
As the holidays near, blood donations typically taper off. That's why WSIL is once again sponsoring a November blood drive.
You can donate at a variety of locations. The drives are set for Friday, November 13 from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. and Saturday, November 14 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
The locations are as follows: Illinois Centre Mall - Marion University Mall - Carbondale Times Square Mall - Mt. Vernon Wal-Mart - Harrisburg American Legion Hall - Benton Please stop by one of these locations and give the gift of life. Every donor will receive refreshments and a specially designed "Thanks for Giving" t-shirt donated by Main Street T's in Du Quoin.
