Fatal Traffic Accident in Jackson County
The accident happened around 4:30 Monday afternoon on Giant City Road just south of Touch of Nature Road.
Jackson County authorities says Matthew Knipe, 22, of Carbondale was approaching a construction zone in his car but failed to reduce his speed and struck a stopped motorcycle.
The driver of the motorcycle, Omar Wilson, 28, of Robinson, Illinois, was taken to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale where he later died from his injuries.
A flagman was also injured in the accident. He was treated at the scene.
Knipe has been issued a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident
The Jackson County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate.
