Fire at SIU Research Lab

WILLIAMSON COUNTY- A fire caused a scare at an S-I-U research lab this Wednesday afternoon.

It happened at the coal technology lab in Carterville.

Crews were cutting a piece of metal equipment when a rubber portion caught fire along with a nearby
machine.


The fire burned out of control for several minutes. The black smoke could be seen from Carbondale.

Officials say damage was minimal and no one was hurt.
