Stimulus Money for Southern Illinois
WASHINGTON (AP) - Federal stimulus funding has been granted to two southern Illinois community projects. U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced $17.5 million in grants Thursday. The money is heading to rural communities nationwide.
A grant to Pulaski County of $50,900 will be used to expand garage bays for two refurbished ambulances. The better equipped vehicles are too large to be housed in the current building. A grant of just over $1,800 will help the village of Karnak purchase a safer system for raising and lowering workers who maintain and repair the sewer department pits. The village has been using a method that doesn't meet federal safety standards.
