West Nile in Williamson County

Johnston City- The West Nile virus has turned up in Williamson County. The Franklin Williamson Bi-County Health Department reports a pool of infected mosquitoes at the southern edge of Johnston City. Spokeswoman Whitney Mehaffy says the find shouldn't cause undue concern.

Mehaffy says, "the mosquitoes are active and some of them may carry mosquito born illnesses."

But she says only 2 in 10 people bitten by an infected mosquito ultimately contract the illness.
Symptoms include fever, head ache and body aches.

Tips for Avoiding Mosquitoes:
Stay indoors between dusk and dawn.
Make sure your screens and doors are well sealed.
Drain standing water on your property.
Keep your grass short.
And use mosquito repellant that contains DEET.
