Community Shows Support for Women's Center

Play Video
HARRISBURG, Ill.-- A Harrisburg women's center that recently celebrated thirty years of service could close if state budget cuts become reality.

Wednesday night members of the community showed support for the staff, volunteers and clients at Anna Bixby Women's Center in one of the sweetest ways possible: they used pie, and chicken and dumplings.

The meal was prepared by members of local churches.

"I know they've been going through hard times and we're just there to show them how much we love them and how much we support them and how much help we'll give them if they need help," said Peggy Sisco of Cross Road Bible Church.

The Anna Bixby Center provides support for victims of domestic violence and their family. The special meal was a welcome distraction for clients who going through tough times, and staff who are could see their jobs eliminated if budget cuts go through.

"There's a possibility that jobs will be lost and if it goes like they're saying the center may have to just completely close because we won't be able to function," said Diane Taborn.
