Storm Damage in Carbondale
CARBONDALE-- Multiple roofs in Carbondle lay on the ground after being ripped off apartment buildings on Wall Street and thrown into some powerlines.
And across the street from that Holly Gilmore moves her things out of her apartment where the roof also collapsed.
On the other side of SIU's campus, Chris Hart and his roommate watched a tree fall on their friend's car.
"It came off the roof and then landed right on the car.....sway again and fall down on their house."
Another student Steven Lim had a tree come right through his apartment's bedroom-
He says he got out just in time.
"I was actually on my computer for a few minute prior and if the power hadn't gone out I'd probably still be sitting right there."
This was the weekend that student were supposed to be graduating.
Instead, many spent time cleaning up debris.
With all the power outages from those fallen limbs, parents in town for ceremonies are having trouble at hotels.
"They can't check anyone in because the card generators won't generate key cards for the rooms."
But the guests say they'll ride the night out with no electricity anyway...
"I think so. I don't really want to get stuck anywhere else so at least we have a place and we'll probably stay here."
It's not quite the end of the school year for younger students.
Some kids at Lewis School will find themselves in new classrooms when they go back to school.
"Standing in the classrooms you can just look up through the ceiling there's no ceiling there it ripped all off."
