Dick Durbin on Health Insurance

Play Video
CARTERVILLE--US Senator Dick Durbin once again spent the day in Southern Illinois. This morning he was at John A. Logan college discussing legislation to provide affordable health insurance for small businesses and the self-employed. The plan allows businesses to band together to get lower premiums. It also includes tax credits and protection from large rate increases. Durbin says half of uninsured people work for small businesses.

"When you get down to this issue, you're really touching an issue that hurts a lot of families and really keeps them up at night, worrying about how they're going to get the protection they need for their own medical care," says Durbin.

Durbin says the plan has bi-partisan support but with the current session wrapping up, he says it probably won't be passed until a new president takes office.
