The Carterville Lioness Club honors veterans and active military personnel with ties to the Tri-C area with a military salute on July 3. Military Salute flags will line Cannon Park with plaques honoring each service member. A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 5:00 p.m. with an Opening Ceremony scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the shelter in the park. More than 140 flags will be displayed.

At the Williamson County Fairgrounds there will be a Memorial Horse Show to honor the memory of Justin Dodd who was killed by a drunk driver on July 16th, 2007. Events include barrel racing, pole bending and flag racing. Free to the public. It will start at 5 pm on Friday and 5pm on Saturday. There will be raffle items and a silent auction.

Rend Lake Fireworks Festival July 4 at the Rend Lake Dam & Visitor's Center. Event opens at 4:00 pm. Parking is $5.00 per vehicle, that is a donation towards the fireworks. You will enjoy live music provided by Sojourn from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm, the SI Concert Band 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm, and the area's largest fireworks display begins at 9:30 pm with live music from the SI Concert Band. A free children's area for ages 12 and under.
Rend Lake Fireworks Carnival at the old Big John's parking lot in the Rend Lake Shopping Plaza in West City, IL. The carnival will run from July 1st - July 4th. Dining to Donate at Applebee's will be on Tuesday, June 16th from 4:00 -9:00 pm at the 120 N. Central Street location in West City, IL. This is a Rend Lake Fireworks fundraiser the entire community could participate in. 15% of your bill will be donated to this year's Rend Lake Fireworks.
Steeleville: Celebration runs through Saturday at Steeleville American Legion Park. Daily schedule includes: Classic baseball games at 2 p.m., 3 p.m. and 4 p.m.; carnival rides, 6 pm.-close; entertainment, 8 p.m.-close; arts and crafts in the city park. On Saturday, parade begins at 10 a.m. Fireworks begin at 10 p.m. Saturday. 618-965-3134.

Cape Girardeau: 1-5 p.m. Saturday, Red House Interpretive Center invites veterans and active members of all branches of military service to see members of the Sons of the American Revolution and view their display of historical American flags dating from 1777 through 2008. The Red House is located on the riverfront in historic downtown Cape Girardeau.
Cape Girardeau: 9 a.m.-3p.m. Saturday, Fort D Historic Site, Cape Girardeau. Fourth at the Fort Living History with re-enactors of the Turner Brigade demonstrating life during the time of the American Civil War. Demonstrations include artillery drill and firing, infantry drill and rifle loading and firing, ladies fashions and hands-on drill experience for visitors. Admission is free.
Kaskaskia Island: 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Kaskaskia Bell State Historic Site.
Johnston City: 9 a.m. Saturday, Old City Park beside Washington School. Parade begins at 9 a.m. at First Baptist Church. Festivities begin at 11 a.m. Music, raffle, free hamburgers and hot dogs, watermelon eating contest, washer toss and more. Kids ages 5 to 12 may bring decorated bikes for the kids' bike parade. 15 - 20 of the top professional Elvis Tribute artist that have performed all over the United States including Vegas,Branson,and Memphis come to the Marion Civic center to compete in a concert that will crown one of them the King of the Illusion of the King.

This month Marion is preparing to shake, rattle and roll as the town remembers the legacy of Elvis Presley. On July 25th and 26th the Marion Cultural and Civic Center proudly presents the “Illusions of the King” contest. This two day event features a group of the world’s best Elvis tribute artist. These artists have performed nation-wide including Las Vegas, Branson and Memphis. On Saturday July 25th at 7:00 pm each of these Elvii will take the stage to perform their best tribute to the King of Rock and Roll. They will be judged on vocals, moves, and appearance. The top six will then return on Sunday July 26th at 2:00 pm for the final round. Their performance will be completely different than the previous nights but again they will be judged on their best representation of Elvis’s legacy. Along with the amazing tributes there will be attendance prizes, vendors and raffles for Elvis memorabilia, including two paid trips to Graceland.
