WSIL Summer Blood Drive Wraps Up
MARION -- The WSIL Summer Blood Drive wrapped up Saturday afternoon with a great turnout. The Red Cross collected a total of 258 pints of blood over the last two days. That amount of blood could potentially help 774 individual people. Each pint collected will be ready for use within the next 48 hours.
Red Cross representatives say drives like these are crucial when it comes to saving lives.
"It's important because the need is constant. Most people assume that someone else is donating and that someone else will make sure that that blood is there, but that isn't always the case. 90% of our population will need a blood product at some point in their life, so that's almost all of us," says Donor Recruitment Representative Jennifer Chaney.
If you missed out on the WSIL Summer Blood Drive and would still like to donate, you can check the Red Cross website for other drives this year or call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE to schedule an appointment.
