Unsung Hero: Santa's Candy Cane House
Getting your picture taken with Santa Claus is a tradition in many families.
At Santa's Candy Cane House in Marion, you can have your own photo taken with the big guy, and help several charities.
A portion of picture sales will go to the Ministerial Alliance, Hospice of Southern Illinois, and St Jude Children's Hospital.
"Hopefully the kids will learn that it is about sharing and the time of the season," said Santa Claus.
Santa Claus says it's important to remember that Christmas is about more than just gifts.
"I want to make sure that the kids understand the true meaning of Christmas," said Santa, "and be thankful for what they do have and hopefully be in a position either now or later in life to help others and show good will toward men."
Little girls and boys are guaranteed three to five photos on the CD they will be given when they leave. Santa says the kids don't just ask for toys..
"I guess the most rewarding part is to see how unselfish the kids really are. They're always asking for something for their other family members," said Santa.
Santa wants to remind all of us that this season is not just about good food and gifts, but also about being with those we love.
"It's one of the things I believe in and as far as bringing Santa and the family closer together in the true meaning of Christmas," said Santa.
If you're waiting to get your picture taken with Santa, you still have time before he will be busy putting gifts under your tree and uttering those popular words.
"Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!"
Santa's Candy Cane House is located on Williamson County Parkway in front of Mr Koolz and Rent One. They are open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 am - 8:00 pm through Christmas Eve. The picture CD will cost you $12.50 with $2.50 going to charity.
