MARION -- The Southern Illinois Miners season came to a tough end in 2013. The Miners lost six of their last seven games and missed the playoffs.

But there is a lot of optimism surrounding this year's squad. Most of the team is compiled of new talent and Miners' manager Mike Pinto is excited about the team's potential. But first, this group needs to build chemistry before the first pitch is thrown out.

"Mike does a great job every year of bringing in a great group of players," says Joe Eisen. "We have been here for a few days and we are meshing really well. We have another great group of guys this year and I am excited to see this group come together over the next couple of weeks."

"I think a few of us have played against each other in the California league," says Ryan Cavin. "So there are a few of us that already know each other. David Nick plays second, I know him already so, I think the combination of meeting the new younger players and in the next few weeks before the season starts and during the spring, we can meet each other, go bowling, and get a good team bond before the season starts so we can make a run at it."
