Kare for Kassidy Fundraiser
HERRIN -- Family and Friends of a Johnston City girl, who is recovering from a brain injury, gathered Saturday for a fundraiser. It's been 16 months since Kassidy Mauk was in a car accident that left her in a coma for nearly a month. She is still recovering from the traumatic brain injury that happened as a result.
Kassidy is unable to walk and communicates mostly with her hands. Taking care of her has become a full-time job for Kassidy's mother. Her father says fundraisers like this one not only help out with medical bills, but also teaches others to care about one another.
"It's awareness for a lot of different things, community, support, and friends and family. The message is to do all we can to take care of one another. We're all in this world together and we need to be safe doing it," explains Terry Brooks, Kassidy's dad.
He says Kassidy's accident was because of impaired driving and he wants to make sure people are working to create a safer world for everyone to live in.
